Make it Up
I recently bought a signed copy of this book from Todd Oldham’s garage sale https://www.toddoldhamstudio.com I had no idea he was selling off runway originals and a lifetime of vintage collectibles until a random Instagram ad pierced my feed through my old Dark Pony fashion account. As soon as I looked over the shop, I was hit with an intense wave of nostalgia and sadness. I wanted to buy one of everything and hold on to what I now realize was the dream of the nineties: a funky, fun, fresh, playfully weird fashion fantasy. Without Boundaries is peak Todd Oldham and a document of creativity. He often recounts the idea of making something out of nothing, adorning the ugly, and revering the discarded. He speaks my language. I am a recovering treasure hunter and obsessive furniture and vintage evening gown collector, but only if each item costs less than $10. Until this year, I never realized how much his aesthetic influenced my creative thinking and design tendencies. Thank you, Todd; I owe you.
